Educating the Next Generation: Building Capacity in Green Chemistry

writingscientistIf today we were to make a wholesale switch over to Green Chemistry for all the ways in which we design and make things, we would be stuck. Not stuck because there is a shortage of possibilities or of innovations from the field. Stuck because we lack the human element in the equation – chemists taught and equipped to think and create using the principles of Green Chemsitry.

To execute this wholesale shift to a truly sustainable economy we must educate the next generation to be Green Chemists. This process has begun and terrific progress is being made. As part of our Benchmarking work, AGC set out to measure the educational capacity of the field (see our initial results).

The educational leaders in this effort need research funding and institutional support.  We all need them to succeed.
